Nieuro ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Nieuro mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). Please read this policy carefully. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Account Information: Your email address and password (stored as a secure hash) when you register.
Profile Data: Any name or preferences you provide within the app.
Usage Data: Episodes played, topics browsed, AI host conversation history, journal entries, and session logs.
Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and anonymous device identifiers for analytics and crash reporting.
Voice Input: If you use voice features, audio is processed in real-time and is not stored on our servers.
Purchase Information: Subscription status and transaction records are managed through Apple's App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card details.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide, personalize, and improve the Service
To power AI host memory and maintain conversation continuity
To generate personalized mantras, journal insights, and episode recommendations
To send you account-related communications (e.g., password resets)
To process subscription purchases and manage access to premium features
To enforce our Terms of Use and prevent fraudulent activity
To comply with applicable legal obligations

3. AI-Generated Content and Memory

Nieuro uses large language models (LLMs) to generate podcast content and conversational responses. Your conversation history with AI hosts may be stored to provide character memory and personalization continuity. You may clear an individual host's memory or all memory at any time via Settings → Clear Memory. Clearing memory is permanent and cannot be undone.

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

AI Model Providers: Conversation text is sent to AI model providers (such as OpenAI) to generate responses. Their applicable privacy policies govern their use of that data.
Infrastructure Providers: Cloud hosting, database, and server providers that support the operation of the Service.
Apple Inc.: In-app purchase and subscription transactions are processed by Apple under their own privacy policies.
Legal Obligations: We may disclose your information when required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, prevent fraud, or ensure the safety of our users.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account remains active. Journal entries and AI memory are retained until you delete them or close your account. You may delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account, which will permanently and immediately remove all your data from our systems.

You may also request deletion of all your personal data by contacting us at support@nieuro.net. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

6. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@nieuro.net.

7. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS/HTTPS), bcrypt-hashed passwords, JWT-based authentication, and strict access controls. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable law including:

Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
Portability: Request your data in a portable, machine-readable format
Opt-Out: Opt out of certain data processing activities
Restriction: Request restriction of processing in certain circumstances

9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your CCPA rights, contact support@nieuro.net.

10. International Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States. We take appropriate steps to ensure your data is protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

11. Third-Party Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or email. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
